  I've shopped at this very tiny "local" hardware store several times, and the gentleman who owns and operates it (Mr. Putnam) is a wonderful "gentleman" who truly embodies what that word (gentleman) REALLY means. He is an expert on just about anything that a "do-it-yourself-er" amateur homeowner might need to fix a household emergency. On my latest trip trip this afternoon, which required me to replace a side-mounted flush handle for a modern-day Kohler brand toilet, he prevented me from buying one of his generic in-stock items that clearly appeared from the package contents would have worked seamlessly. I was dead wrong! Had I bought the in-stock part on his rack, it would have cost me about $5 in gas, and $20 in time wasted to return it. When I showed him the part I needed, he immediately knew that he didn't stock it and vectored me to another local (Mom & Pop owned) hardware store about 5 miles away that he knew would have the part in stock. He even warned me that Home Depot and Lowe's would not have it in stock and would have to special order it, so I did not waste my time and gas to go there first. This tiny little Paint and Hardware Store (Putnam's) is TRULY a blast from the past. The owner (Mr. Putnam), has SUPERB knowledge of how to fix almost any household hardware-related emergency, and he's a SUPER nice guy (a TRUE GENTLEMAN). He reminds me of Jimmy Stewart's character (George Bailey the local banker) in "It's a Wonderful Life" (the best Christmas Movie ever made). If you live in St. Petersburg, FL and have a home "fix-it now" emergency, I would HIGHLY recommend that you go to this place FIRST, before you head to Home Depot or Lowes for their so-called "expert advice". If Mr. Putnam doesn't stock the part or product you need in his tiny little shop, he'll know exactly where you can get it locally, and his expert-level advice on what you need to do to fix it (beyond just the part) is 100% free of charge! It's small business owners like Mr. Putnam who made America a great country! I sure wish we had more like him in this day and age.
